Since December 2020, the University of Latvia has been implementing the individual project application of the Latvian Science Council in the open competition program “Provision of funding for scientific excellence and performance of scientific institutions to strengthen research specialization, excellence and influence – to implement a unified academic and scientific career system reform and increase the role of science and innovation”. project “Institutum Herderianum Rigense: Herder Institute in Riga as a science network in the European Science Network” (LZP registration number lzp-2020 / 2-0083, LU registration No. LZP2020 / 9). The project focuses on the educational center and scientific institution – the Herder Institute in Riga (HI), whose history (1921-1939) and contribution to the genesis of modern science have not been properly studied so far in Latvia or in the world. Among the correspondents of HI, founded by the Riga Herder Society, were such scientists as M. Planks, J. J. von Ikskils, V. Nernsts, and others. The aim of the project is to study HI as a surprisingly well-organized science network in a triple sense.
